I think that Macbeth tragic flaw is that he will do anything to get what he wants, even betraying people to do so. SOmetimes this is a good treat, but if it is taken to extremes, then it can be bad.

Connection with a Short Story
Although there are many differences in the two novels, Fahrenheit 451 and Brave New World have the same goal as far as society goes; the central government just wants everyone to be socially safe.
When a society in these worlds are socially safe, they usually have to maintain three things; people have to be clueless of history or old literature, they have to be content all the time, and they have to be emotionless and not passionate for anything or anyone.
How these societies on both if these novels keep people clueless if very different, but along the same lines. In Fahrenheit 451 they simply take books away completely. And the talk of these books is frowned upon and if you were caught with books, then your house was burnt down. But in Brave New World people just don’t even know what history is and don’t understand it. Like when John was talking to Mustapha about why there was a movie about a modern day Othello, Mustapha said it was because they were to stupid and they wouldn’t understand it. Which is not their fault because that’s how they are conditioned and raised.
The people in these societies are kept happy all the time, and if they aren’t happy are feeling like they have to deal with emotional situations, they just take have routines that make everything all better again. In Brave New World soma was their escape from reality. Whenever Lenina had to sit through a boring meeting, or deal with John calling her a whore, she would always take soma so she would be happy again. And they even had a plan just incase a riot broke out, which it did when John was throwing out the soma. The police would just take a bunch of gas soma and stray it over everyone until people were so high that they could be mad and just passed out into a soma holiday. In Fahrenheit 451 they use giant televisions to keep people happy and entertained. Mildred would think is TV programs as her family because that’s what would make her happy.
They last thing the central government does to keep social stability is make sure no one is passionate toward anyone or anything, in Fahrenheit 451 although there was marriage, is a woman’s husband died in war or died at all they would go and find another significant other. And if they were to become passionate, like Montag did about books, then people go and break the rule and rebel. In Brave New World No one is passionate towards anyone else and if they are it is only the physical attraction, nothing emotional. Like when Lenina first went after Bernard, she thought he was so odd, but he was physically pleasing, so she went to the reservation with him.
The central governments in these two novels are very similar as far as their goals for the people go.
Book Summery
The Brave New World starts with an overview of the society and how it functions. It shows all of the different styles of how the children are brought up and how they are taught how to like certain things depending on which society they are from. There are five major social groups, the Epsilons, Betas, Gamma, Deltas, and Alphas. Alphas being the top dogs, and Epsilons being at the bottom of the food chain. People get out put into their social groups even as an embryo, and the conditioning is carried out until they are adults. People who are in a lower social group work for people of a high social status. In the first section of the book we are introduced to a lot of characters, but Lenina Crowne and Bernard Marx are the most important. Bernard was an outsider because he thought that the society was rubbish and he didn’t like soma. He had a friend with similar beliefs named Hemholtz Watson. We also learn that in this everyone belongs to every and there are no exclusive relationships. Also, the thought of being a mother was disgusting and only a joke to be a father
The next part of this book is about Lenina and Bernard going to the Savage reservation on vacation. In this section we meet a woman named Linda who was in love the Director and they went on the same vacation that Bernard and Lenina are on but she was left in the reservation and she was pregnant. So we also meet the son that was born. His name is John and he had a rough childhood. He was also mad fun of and beaten up for being white and also have a mother who was a whore. On top of that, him mother would beat him because she blamed him for ruining her life. So, Bernard went to Mustapha Mond, one of the ten world rulers, if he could bring Linda and John back to London with him for a science experiment. Mustapha approved what Bernard was doing so they all went back to London together.
In the third part of this book, it was about how John worked in the society that his mom had talked so much about. He was really only show cased around by Bernard. John had also developed feelings for Lenina and she thought that she was sharing those feelings, but neither one of them knew how that other felt. Meanwhile, Linda was so unattractive and disgusting because she was a mother she was kept in Bernard’s apartment with endless amounts of soma to keep her happy while she wastes away. So, Bernard invited everyone who was important or of high social status to this revealing of the savage from the reservation, but then, he didn’t come out of the apartment. Everyone left and Bernard was instantly judged again and was an outsider again. Then, Lenina told John about her feelings and he told her his feelings, but she only wanted a physical relationship and not an emotional one and John wanted the opposite. So that didn’t work out and then John’s mom died. So he went crazy and started a riot by throwing all the soma away. Then, because John and Hemholtz here with the savage, they were both exiled to islands to do research was it was socially safe. Then John went to a lighthouse and whipped himself and Lenina went there and he whipped her. Eventually he hanged himself.
I really enjoyed this book other then the ending. I thought by John killing himself it was the easy way out and society didn't really change by it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to think about the what ifs in life. Also a person who is started to analyze books and pick them apart would enjoy reading this because there are some easy allusions to pick up and it is good for starters.

Chapter 16 Journal Entry
- Bernard, John, and Hemholtz are meeting Mustapha to see what their punishment you be for the riot. Mustaoha began with asking John if he like society and of course he said didn't and Bernard was horrified. The they talked about books and how people weren't aloud to read them except for Mustapha because he was the one who makes the laws so he can break them. Then, John was asking why they didn't have any modern day plays like Othello or Romeo and Juliet. Then the controller explained that no one would understand what was happening. They wouldn't know what was happening because on the story Othello there are things like wives and children and families and that would only confuse the people of that society. The John went on to tell how the feelies are pointless and dumb, and even though Helmholtz writes them, he agrees. Then john asked why there were different social groups, and Mustapha said because no one would want to do the little jobs, and the lower class citizens are glad to do it. Then, Mustapha admitted to the fact that he was an outsider as well and he was almost exiled until he decided that he would just accept the society. Then he discusses the future of Bernard and Hemhotlz. As soon and Mustapha mentions anything of the sort, Bernard starts crying and pleading for him to stay and he'll behave. He was reacting so violently, that he had to he had to be escorted to a bedroom and knock him out with soma. Then Mustapha started saying the being sent to an island can be a good thing because you get to experiment and meet lots of new people. Mustapha was almost went to an island myself, until he learned that dealing with the society would be better. The Hemholtz said that he would like to be sent to an island with bad climate so he cam focus on him studies, and then went to go check on Bernard,
- This chapter is important because it wraps up a few loose ends. Like we know the fate of Hemholtz and Bernard. He also see that Bernard has lost his marbles. The minute an island is mentioned, he goes bonkers.
- Characters
- John didn't really make any emotional changes. He was, however, informed more about why things happen in society the way they do. Like why they don't have more dynamic movies and plays and why there are different levels in society.
- Bernard has a major nervous breakdown. And, the fact that he has gone from mostly soma free to popping pills left and right shows how unstable he is.
- Hemholtz and very collected and calm. He also is very accepting. Instead on revolting more, he makes a request an islnad to go to and then goes on his way.

- There is a lot of talk about Romeo and Juliet and Othello

Chapter 15 Journal Entry
- John ran out of the hospital to find lots of people standing around their soma. A man went our in front of the crowd and held up a box full of soma for everyone. People started for the soma one at a time until things got out of hand. Then, the man with the box shut it, and threatened that no one was to get their soma. Then John thought of how Linda was a slave to soma and he yelled at everyone to stop. The He went up and stared telling everyone that they were being freed and he was throwing the soma away. The people were horrified and a riot broke loose. Meanwhile, Hemholz and Bernard were waiting for the savage at their normal meeting place. Then they got a phone call, and they were informed of that was going on with the savage. Then it went back and it showed the savage giving a speech about how they were all slaves and he was only freeing them. Then the police come and start their crows comtrol and Bernard starts to panic because Hemholtz and John are both rebelling.
- This is in important chapter because it is the climax of the story. It is the peek of John's internal problems and where he can't really hold back anymore and he does that he feels is right.
- Characters
- John has an emotional breakdown in this chapter. If his mother hadn't of died and Lenina practically attack him, he might have actually though about what he was doing. Although he was doing what he thought was right, the outcome here and more severe.
- Literary Elements
- Simile
- "...LIke maggots..."
- Metaphor
- ..."To have become mere sticks of jello..."

Chapter 24 Journal Entry
- John arrives at the hospital for dying people, and he asked the nurse about how his mother was doing. He said that there was no hope, and then John got noticeable upset, and the nurse was confussed. John finally got the nurse to take him to Linda. She was very distant because of all the soma, so she saw that he was there, and then she fell alseep. The a but of twins came and started looking and laughing and Linda. John didn't so he hit one of the kids. The nurse saw this and then she got mad and threatened to get him thrown out if he disrupted their death conditioning again. The nurse was scared so she made the children go away anyhow. Then, John went back to looking after his mom. He started thinking about all of the good times while he was growing up, but with the good memories, came the bad ones as well. Then, while she was still in her some holiday, she mumbles pope's name, and John was outrages with jealously that Pope was the one in her dreams, not him. He was shaking her, so Linda woke up, and remembered John, but then, she couldn't breath and she died with a look of terror in her eyes. JOhn tried to get a nurse and he thought he had killed her, The only thing that nurse was worried about was them being unconditioned, so she distracted the little boys and then the savage walked out pushing one of the kids over,
- The importance of this chapter is that is shows that no one deals with emotions and the meaning of duty is shown more. An example of the emotions is that people in this society are conditioned to have death not faze them. So when John acted out, it was so strange to everyone. And, the nurse wasn't thinking about how JOhn might be feeling, instead she was worried about her job.
- Character
- John goes through a dramatic experience in this chapter, and he really has no one to talk to. No one in this society has ever cared if anyone else had died, because they really don't attach to anyone. So he has to grow up and move on all by himself
